Real priorities

When I first started watching this, my initial thought was, "Okay, this really crosses the acceptable line of humor. It is in poor taste."

But it didn't take me long to catch that it is actually pretty profound if you think about it.

The Onion isn't exactly known for staying safe. :-)

Firstly, I though it was funny and probably over the line. But where is the line, is there a line and when can we cross it..... with humor?

You know me, Paul, I'm always looking to insert humor into any situation... and I've crossed the line more times than I can count.

I believe humor is a good thing and that God created it. I believe it heals. I believe it stimulates dialogue and brings people together, provokes introspection and the list goes on.

I believe humor can also hurt and cause division, when used at the wrong time or with the wrong motivations.

Saturday Night Live is an interesting example. While they appear to be an equal opportunity offender, they don't dish it out with equal motives.

When they make fun of conservative politicians or Christians, they say things meant to belittle them and condescend. When they make fun of liberal politicians and others, it's like they've asked permission for what can be made fun of. They make fun of things that a friends would make fun of in one another-- nothing hurtful or degrading.
