Where are you?

Take the hermeneutics quiz. It is designed to give you some insight into how you read and understand the bible and to place you on a continuum from a more conservative understanding to a more liberal. Please be honest. If you don't mind, please post your number result.

And if you want to be bold, you can try to guess my number. Closest gets lunch.

70. progressive. when i read the descriptors, i think that it's pretty accurate about my view. i definitely land in the "still consider it the Word of God for today" category.

paul, i'd guess that you're in the 60-66 range. just a little more toward the progressive side of moderate. but, then again, it's human nature to assume that others are like ourselves. maybe you'll surprise me!

68 and progressive. But I didn't like any of the answer options on quite a few of the questions.

59 moderate. there were many questions that i would not have chosen any of the provided answers and would have liked some different options.

I'll guess Paul at 59, because he must be like me!

I agree with others that many of the options were wholly unacceptable.

I got a 63, but like others have mentioned, there were questions were I felt all the choices were bad for some reason.

I will guess Paul at a 58. I'm boxing you in, Jared. ;o)

WHERE, I meant WHERE, not were. Ahh.

A word about the questions. Yes, obviously they are not perfect. I'm not sure your hermeneutical approach can be defined by a few questions. But for what it is, I actually think it is pretty good.

It's hard because he is trying to force you to make a choice, even if you don't agree with the options (a couple of you said this). A LOT of this test gets to the understanding of how you see the role of community in the formation, interpretation and application of scripture, verses an individual approach.

67. what happens when you want to say "between 1 and 4, but not 3"????

You know Paul, perhaps instead of the closest guess getting lunch, maybe the farthest guess should get lunch. ;o)

so only 3 of you took a shot at guessing what I was... you guys chicken?

chicken could be a lunch option.

OK.. I'll guess 57. I don't think you are "progressive" but not really "conservative" either. This put you on the low end of moderate.

69 - progressive. I truly believe in the role of community in faith formation and in aiding the interpretation of scripture. Not the sole source of interpretation, but a part of it. And essential in determining how to live out scripture in community and unity.

I'd guess you to be a 64. Absolutely no reasoning behind that though. Just random. :-)

I honestly thought I would score lower. Surprised myself a little.

My guess for Paul is 61.

72 and progressive. I am going to guess that you are around there too ... maybe between 70 and 75? Oh, and if I'm right ... no chicken, please. Especially one that hasn't been killed properly. =)

53-moderate. My guess for you is 61. I smell chicken.

paul said...

Sorry Beth, the only way you are smelling chicken is if you are standing next to Millers. Someone else is closer.

But I laughed out loud when I read your response... so I might buy your dinner Thursday.

I will guess that you got a 66 or a 68 :P

Sorry I didn't see this before.

71 and progressive - a "walking contradiction" according to someone I know.

Paul is about a 60-65 -- because he knows more how to interpret these questions but just enough liberal to stir things up!
