"If you are a visitor with this week, this is NOT normal"

I leave for the weekend. Jim's in charge... everything is fine, right?

I text him Sunday afternoon and ask him how the worship times went... how did Saturday go?

Here is the email I get on my iphone:

last night was ok. only about 35 people though. the service seems to be shrinking. not sure why.

this morning was . . . uhmm . . . interesting. first service was fine.

second service we had a "minor disruption." i had to call the police.

seriously. probably a nice weekend to be gone and miss out on the "fun!"

talk to you soon,

j

Hummm... do I call him and find out what is going on? What do you think I did?

It's not a Central worship service until someone calls the police.

oh man, I almost wrote a blog post about that. but then i realized that I didn't really know what happened, however, he was sitting behind me for awhile, and kept saying the most random things ever. i didn't realize the police were called.

What a great email! I personally would have replied with, "I'm really concerned with our Sat evening numbers" and not even acknowledged the poice comment.

But, what did Paul do? Well, I'm guessing you sent a funny reply AFTER posting the email to your blog. ;-) Priorities. U haz dem.

Man, that used to happen all the time. I've walked at least two of those guys outside to calm down. That's all it would take.
Maybe they're getting more aggressive, lately, or maybe people are just afraid of getting their hands dirty.

I'm still fuzzy on what happened. Someone fill me in please.

This is why Jim makes the big bucks.

In response to Mike's comment about people being "afraid to get their hands dirty," we did walk the gentleman out of the building. There was a person in service who has had this man as a patient and knew his situation. He realized he was off his meds and needed medical attention. He advised that the only way to get him to the hospital to receive the treatment he needed was to have the police escort him there. That is why the police needed to be called. It was for his own safety. I've been at Central 2 years now and I'm pretty sure people in Central are not "afraid to get their hands dirty."

Jim, I have known Mike for almost 12 years now and consider him a friend -- so when he makes stupid/rude comments like that, I just ignore him.

And you never ignored me, Paul. You walked me outside and called the police.

LOL

Actually, I wasn't even there this weekend.

I hear you are going to be in town this week... shall I call the police early? :)

Not to climb on a soap box, but I'm tired of the on the meds off the meds routine. (I deal with it with my mother.) He most likely thought he was in his right mind. People who don't deal with stuff like this don't know the emotional toll it takes on not only the person but their whole family. There is a lot of joking about someone off their rocker on here and I understand it, and am not condeming it, but do understand that it is hard for the person, and their family. That is someones son, and possibly brother, father, uncle. Just a thought.

Thea... it is a good point. This particular individual is a bit more complex than that. He actually made death threats to the previous pastor... and some of it is medical for sure... but some of it is other history. I don't think we are sinning against him in saying this stuff... but it is a good reminder that he too is someone for whom Christ died...
