I think I would have found a different church if Central were committed to providing a "totally bitchin'" experience for its attendees. Are they trying to attract surfers? I don't know anyone who talks like that.
I don't know if anyone remembers me (Mae, Mad Dog, Blondie Guitar Girl), but I attend Crossroads and have found a really great church home there (something I was a bit doubtful I would find when I left Athens and Central.) Some of their methods can be unconventional, and I'm not trying to defend the language they used in that particular example, but their goal is really to reach out to those who are a bit wary of big churches (or church in general). They really do an incredible amount for the poor and oppressed here in Cincinnati and around the world, and I just didn't want one snippet of the church to cloud everything else they're a part of.
Mae. I most certainly remember you and read your blog all the time... and listen to your music. So you are not forgotten!
I don't doubt that Crossroads is a good church. I actually get really tired of people slamming churches... esp large churches saying that they water-down the message, etc. I also don't doubt that Crossroads is reaching people, helping the poor, etc. But I do think this is a bit over the top... and stand by my observation that I think this is trying a bit too hard. But trust me... I certainly don't think this means Crossroads is not a good church.

"Cool" wasn't the word I first thought of, but then, maybe I'm just being a prude.
